Synopsis

Inder Sen Johar’s much publicized comic look at the forcible sterilization program carried out under the orders of former Indian Prime Minsiter, Indira Gandhi, and her son, Sanjay Gandhi, during the dark days of Emergency. Johar comically portrays this story, which was censored and banned for several years by the Government of India, and stars duplicates of many popular Bollywood stars, including Anitav Bachchan. Songs (which continue to be banned by the Indian Government) are hilarious too: “Kiski chali hai kahe gaye baat ye pyare Jhulelalan, jaan bachao, kher manoa, lagega sub ka number, dhama dham mast kalandhar, aaj hai koi baher to kal woh hoga andhar…”; “Prabhuji de do ik santann….”; “Kya mil gaya Bhagwan, Emergency lagake nasbandi karake hamari chuthi karake, nasbandi karake hamari bansi bajake…”.
