Synopsis
Raj (Amitabh Bachan) is an artist who lives with his single sister and widowed mother. Nita is assaulted and dies; the killer goes scot free. Raj takes revenge and finds himself on the run from the law. On the run he is reunited with his old flame Asha (Sharmila Tagore). While sparks fly, they both realize that they still love each other and yet they respect social values. How Raj, Asha, Mala and Sanjay (Sanjeev Kumar) resolve the knotty issue of unrequited love while the law is chasing Raj is the story skilfully narrated in the film through a series of flashbacks. Can Raj take a hostage and escape the police dragnet? Will Asha find the courage to help Raj? How will Sanjay reconcile his duty as a police officer with his love for his family. Though there are elements of Bombay filmi formulas and the film does drag on in parts, good acting, direction and storyline keep the viewer in a state of “what next” to the very end.
