Biography
Karan Johar was born to famous producer Yash Johar and the renowned founder of Dharma Productions and Hiroo Johar. He was born on 25 May 1972 in Bombay. Karan is an Indian director, producer, screenwriter, costume designer, and television personality. He completed his studies at H.R. College of Commerce and Economics, in Bombay. He started his carrier in the film industry as an actor where he played the role of Srikanth in the Indradhanush serial which was telecasted on the national Channel. He worked as an assistant director with his cousin Aditya Chopra for Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge in 1995, regarded as a landmark in Hindi cinema. His directorial debut was Kuch Kuch Hota Hain which starred Kajol, Shah Rukh Khan, and Rani Mukherji. The movie was a blockbuster and won many Filmfare awards. Karan won Best Directorial Award. He then directed Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham which starred Amitabh Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, Shahrukh Khan, Jaya Bachchan, Kajol, and Kareena Kapoor. The movie got 8 Filmfare awards 2 National Film Awards. He has directed many films like Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, My Name is khan, Student Of the year, Ae Dil Hain Mushkil, and many more. He has also produced for many movies like Kal Ho Na Ho, Wake Up Sid, Kaal, I hate Love Stories, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Kapoor and Sons, Agneepath, Ok Jannu, Dear Zindagi, Raazi, Dhadak and many more.Recently he produced the movies like Sheershah, Jug Jugg Jeeyo, Sooryavanshi, Gehraiyaan, Liger, and Bramhastra. His upcoming directorial movie is Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani and he is a producer for the movies like Dostana2,Govinda Naam Mera, Yodha, and Behdakh. He is also a host for the show Koffee with Karan, Bigg Boss OTT and also a judge for reality shows like Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, Dil Hai Hindustani, India's Got Talent, Hunarbaaz: Desh Ki Shaan. He has also acted in cameo roles in Om Shanti Om, Fashion, Luck By Chance, Shaandar, and also in a Dance number(Cameo) in the song Aankh Maare(Cameo) and in the Chandigarh Mein song. He has also worked as a costume designer for many films like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge Dil To Pagal Hai Duplicate, Mohabbatein, Main Hoon Na, Veer-Zaara, and Om Shanti Om He became a father to twins, a boy, and a girl through surrogacy and named his son Yash and his daughter Roohi. In 2020, the Government of India honored him with Padma Shri, the country's fourth highest civilian award.
