Deepika Padukone

Biography

Deepika Padukone was born on 5 January 1986 in Copenhagen, Denmark, to Prakash Padukone who is a former professional badminton player, and Ujjala a travel agent. She completed her pre-university education at Mount Carmel College. The focus of her life was badminton, which she played competitively from a young age. Padukone also worked as a child model, first appearing in a couple of advertising campaigns at the age of eight. She decided to become a fashion model. In 2004, she began a full-time career as a model under the tutelage of Prasad Bidapa. Padukone gained recognition with a television commercial for the soap Liril and modeled for various other brands and products. She gained wider recognition by featuring in the music video for Himesh Reshammiya's song Naam Hai Tera. Her first debut film was with Aishwarya, with the actor Upendra a Kannada film directed by Indrajit Lankesh. The film proved to be a commercial success. Her first debut in Hindi was Om Shanti Om with Shah Rukh Khan. She received her first film fare Award for Best Actress nomination. In 2008, she worked with Ranbir Kapoor, and Bachana Yeh Haseeno. Her best film from 2007 to 2012 is Billu, Love Aaj Kal, Housefull, Desi Boyz and Cocktail, and many others. She worked in Rohit Shetty's film Chennai Express opposite Shah Rukh Khan, which was one of the highest-grossing Indian films. She acted in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, which was a major commercial success. Furthermore, she has acted in Sanjay Leela Bhansali Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, with Ranveer Singh. She won the Screen Award for Best Actress for both films and the Film fare Award for Best Actress. She featured opposite Rajinikanth in the Tamil film Kochadaiiyaan. Furthermore, she reunited with Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Ranveer Singh in Bajirao Mastani which also featured Priyanka Chopra in the lead role. The film was showcased at the International Film Festival of India at the 61st Filmfare Awards, Bajirao Mastani was named Best Film and Padukone received her second Best Actress nomination that year. In 2018, she has seen in Padmaavat marked her third collaboration with Bhansali and Singh. In 2018, she formed her own company, named Ka Productions. Her first production venture came with Chhapaak, a drama by Meghna Gulzar, In 2021, she was seen in a biopic of Kapil Dev which was acted by Ranveer Singh, and Deepika role of Dev's wife, Romi. Padukone next took on a leading role in Shakun Batra's Gehraiyaan, a drama about infidelity, which was released on Amazon Prime Video. In 2018, she got married to Ranveer Singh in traditional Konkani and Sindhi ceremonies at Lake Como, Italy. Her upcoming movies are Pathan and Fighter. She will be also seen in the song Current Laga Re from the Cirkus movie in a special appearance.
